Lab Experience

Aaron’s Fisher’s Idiographic Dynamics Lab at UC Berkeley engages in research at the individual level. Our group is currently interested in issues of Precision, Personalization, and Prediction in psychopathology and substance use.

Currently there are 2 studies running: the Personalized Prediction and Intervention Study through Single-Session Interventions and the Emotion and Emotion Regulation Study.

I contributed largely towards the Emotion and Emotion Regulation Study, which studied participants’ emotions daily over a period of 3 weeks to gain data about emotional triggers and reactional behaviors.

My Roles

  • Outreach Team

    • Advertised using 200+ flyers spread across UC Berkeley’s campus, Berkeley, and surrounding cities during the first stage of physical marketing

    • Surveyed, onboarded, and scheduled 400+ participants using REDCap through outreach phone calls and email communication while efficiently and accurately documenting participants for study files

  • Baseline Team

    • Launched new study protocols for internal and external use between the 3 teams, utilizing Miro, Microsoft Suite, and REDCap to streamline workflows, increase security, aligning with strict IRB guidelines

    • Interviewed participants through 1-on-1 sessions about their emotion regulation skills and reactional behaviors and onboarded them with LifeData for daily tracking with Ecological Momentary Assessments

  • Data Team

    • Supervised and trained a 7-person data team while managing data between 2 ongoing studies with 300+ total participants, strengthening operational infrastructure by 2x

    • Analyzed baseline vs 3 weeks of EMA tracking and variance from 142 participants by employing R, Excel, REDCap, and LifeData to synthesize emotion regulation insights

Research Papers

A research paper highlighting cultural risk factors (acculturative family distancing, Asian vs American Orientation in Parenting, loss of face) as essential when building holistic, sensitive psychoeducational interventions that target multi-generational, culturally-significant issues.

A research paper exploring the relationship between and potential impact of weather and air quality on mood and emotional wellbeing.
